TAHIMA is a professional organization serving the Tacoma area since 1965. Since that time, our purpose hasn't changed one bit. We exist to serve the Health Information community. We provide a local source of learning and earning of continuing education credits, opportunities for networking with local and national professionals, and discussions of the many challenges specific to our field.

Current officers

President - Kathleen Intile

HIM Specialist, Conifer Health

Kathie is currently working for Conifer Health in their Medical Records Division as a HIM specialist. She is a 2016 graduate of the Health Information Technology (HIT) program at Tacoma Community College (TCC) and currently holds a RHIT credential. She has been attending TCC’s HIM BAS program and will be completing the program in June of 2019. She has been a member of the TAHIMA board since 2016 and President since 2019. She is the mother of 3 beautiful boys now grown and all serving in the US Army and has been in the Puget Sound area since 1991.

President Elect - Dannie Shafer, RHIT

HIM Specialist, PEdiatrics Northwest

Dannie and his wife Isabel have lived in Washington since 2007. They have a handful of cats and a dog to keep them on their toes. Dannie is retired from the Air Force and graduated from the HIT program in March 2018. He currently works at Pediatrics Northwest. Dannie and his wife enjoy going to the movies and visiting the various zoos and aquariums in Washington.

Past President - Karen Youngblood, RHIT

Lead Coding Specialist, CentraCare Health

Karen Youngblood is currently working for CentraCare Health in St Cloud Minnesota as Lead Coding Specialist with an emphasis on Outpatient Services. She has been in the healthcare industry for more than 30 years with a background in Medical Assisting, Laboratory Assisting and Medical Records Coding. Karen is an RHIT and graduated from Columbia College with a degree in Business Administration Management. Her role as TAHIMA Past-President over the next year is to continue to assist the board and membership to ensure TAHIMA membership receives timely, high quality continuing education and networking opportunities as well as other support as needed for success in their HIT/HIM careers. She is excited to continue to be on the TAHIMA Board as Past-President and she looks forward to the many opportunities in the following years.

Treasurer - Kelci Sankovich

Billing Specialist, Comprehensive Life Resources

Kelci Sankovich is a recent grad of the Health Information Technology Program with an Associate in Applied Sciences at Tacoma Community College. She is currently working at Comprehensive Life Resources as a Billing Specialist. Outside of work, she enjoys taking vacation during the Spring and Summer to Cannon Beach, OR as well as traveling to Packwood, WA where her family cabin is.

Secretary/Membership Coordinator - Roza Williams, RHIT

Roza Williams is an RHIT and a graduate of Tacoma Community College in 2017 with a degree of Associate in Applied Science Health Information Technology. She is planning to enroll in the HIM program at Tacoma Community College, soon. She is currently volunteering at elementary schools. Roza is compassion and dedicated to working with children who are with special needs. She also volunteers in the medical records department at a senior health facility. Although she was delighted to serve as a student director and secretary last year, she is excited to serve another year role as the secretary for TAHIMA!

Student Director - Jeanie Brown

I am a current student at Tacoma Community College in the HIT program scheduled to graduate with an associate degree in June 2019. I am hoping to also obtain my ehim certificate shortly thereafter. I was born and raised in Washington and currently reside in Puyallup with my partner Denny, my Pomeranian Penny, and 3 cats Cali, JJ, and Pierre. I am a mother of two children (32, 27) that do not live local and a grandmother to 3 amazing kiddos (10, 8, 4) whom I miss with all my heart every single day. My hobbies are knitting, crochet, sewing, scrapbooking, photography, zentangle, and any other craft that I can get my hands on. I also enjoy geocaching and exploring the wilderness.

Student Director - Crystal Cunningham

My name is Crystal Cunningham. I am a second year HIT student and will be graduating in June 2019. I have worked for MultiCare Health System (Behavioral Health and Good Samaritan Hospital) for almost 32 years. I have been married for ten years, have a 27-year-old daughter, one grandson and one granddaughter. Working in the Behavioral Health setting has been very interesting. I look forward to the changes that coming as behavioral health and medical continue to become more integrated over the next several years.

Webmaster - Jonathan Eastabrooks, MBA, RHIA

HIT Program Chair, Tacoma Community College

Jonathan works as a tenured HIT instructor at Tacoma Community College. He graduated from Tacoma Community College's Health Information Technology program in 2004 and the University of Washington's Health Informatics and Health Information Management program in 2009. He is a graduate of Brandman University's MBA program with a focus in health administration.
