ABOUT US

TAHIMA is a professional organization serving the Tacoma area since 1965. Since that time, our purpose hasn't changed one bit. We exist to serve the Health Information community. We provide a local source of learning and earning of continuing education credits, opportunities for networking with local and national professionals, and discussions of the many challenges specific to our field.

Current officers

President - Ashley Cruz

HB Regulatory Department Liaison, Providence Health & Services

Ashley is currently a student in the HIT Program at Tacoma Community College, in June 2021 she will graduate with her Associate in Applied Science – Health Information Technology, with eHIM Certificate. She will then continue to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management. Ashley currently works for Providence Health & Services, serving Washington, Oregon, Montana, and California as a Regulatory Department Liaison. She has lived in California, Nevada, and Washington with experience as a C.N.A, unit secretary in hospital and ambulatory clinic settings, and as a health information management specialist and lead. She has two children at home who keep her active, together they love to explore the woods. Ashley is excited to work with TAHIMA and assist with ensuring that the local HIM community continues to have access to quality opportunities for networking, continuing education, and other opportunities that TAHIMA provides.

President Elect - Stephanie Tisby

Stephanie Tisby is a student at Tacoma Community College and currently studying to achieve her bachelor's degree in Healthcare Information Management. She is presently a TAHIMA and AHIMA member. She volunteered as a student to interview in the Spring of 2020 for the CAHIIM accreditation for the HIM program at Tacoma Community College. Stephanie has participated in the HIT walk/run the past two years at TCC. She has Associate degrees in General Studies and as a Physical Therapist Assistant. She worked in the field of Physical Therapy for over 20 years. She has one daughter that is 20 years old. She is passionate about helping and serving others. She is interested in the President-Elect position because she wants to support and assist the President of TAHIMA as well as other board members. She wants to network and learn more about the HIM field. She is looking forward to networking and recruiting potential guest speakers to help members achieve continuing education requirements.

Past President - Karen Youngblood, RHIT

Risk and Reimbursement Analyst, CentraCare Health

Karen Youngblood is currently working for CentraCare Health in St. Cloud, Minnesota as a Risk and Reimbursement Analyst. She has been in the healthcare industry for more than 30 years with a background in Medical Assisting, Laboratory Assisting and Medical Records Coding. Karen is an RHIT and graduated from Columbia College with a degree in Business Administration Management and is currently pursuing her Bachelors in Health Information Management at Tacoma Community College. Her role as TAHIMA President over the next year is to continue to assist the board and membership to ensure TAHIMA membership receives timely, high quality continuing education and networking opportunities as well as other support as needed for success in their HIT/HIM careers. She is excited to continue to be on the TAHIMA Board as President and she looks forward to the many opportunities in the following years.

Secretary/Membership Coordinator - Jeanie Brown, RHIT

Jeanie is a current student at Tacoma Community College in the HIM BAS program scheduled to graduate in June 2021. At that time she will have also acquired her eHIM certificate. She was born and raised in Washington and currently resides in Puyallup with her partner Denny, her Pomeranian Penny, and a cat named JJ (JavaJoe). She is the mother of two grown children that do not live local and a grandmother to 3 amazing kiddos. My hobbies are knitting, crochet, sewing, scrapbooking, photography, zentangle, and any other craft that I can get my hands on. I also enjoy geocaching and exploring the wilderness. Jeanie previously has served on the TAHIMA board for 2 years as Student Director.

Treasurer - Kelci Sankovich

Billing Specialist, Comprehensive Life Resources

Kelci Sankovich is a recent grad of the Health Information Technology Program with an Associate in Applied Sciences at Tacoma Community College. She is currently working at Comprehensive Life Resources as a Billing Specialist. Outside of work, she enjoys taking vacation during the Spring and Summer to Cannon Beach, OR as well as traveling to Packwood, WA where her family cabin is.

Student Director - Michelle Purcell

Michelle is currently a second-year student in the HIT program at Tacoma Community College. She will graduate with her Associates in Applied Science-Health Information Technology in June 2021 and plans to continue to the Bachelors Health Information Management program at Tacoma Community College. She has been in the health field previously working in patient care for a non-profit for eight years. She is currently working part-time as a home health aide in hopes of gaining more skills and knowledge about the healthcare field. In her spare time, she enjoys games, reading, crafting, and pin-up. Michelle is delighted to join the TAHIMA team while continuing to help further the mission of TAHIMA.

Student Director - Rachel Hendricks

Rachel is currently a second-year student in the HIT program at Tacoma Community College and aims to receive her Associates in Applied Science-Health Information Technology in June 2021.  After working twenty years in customer service, Rachel decided she was interested in a career change in healthcare.  She hopes to grow quickly on her new career path and plans to continue her education down the road as opportunities present themselves.  Rachel is passionate about health and fitness and says giving herself at least twenty minutes a day for yoga is a must.  She lives in University Place with her boyfriend, Chad, and cat, Rose.   On her down time, she enjoys visiting with family members or curling up with a good thriller novel.  Rachel is excited to join the TAHIMA team and meet others in the field, gain further knowledge, and most importantly- be of service to others the best she can! 

Webmaster - Jonathan Eastabrooks, MBA, RHIA

HIT Program Chair, Tacoma Community College

Jonathan works as a tenured HIT instructor at Tacoma Community College. He graduated from Tacoma Community College's Health Information Technology program in 2004 and the University of Washington's Health Informatics and Health Information Management program in 2009. He is a graduate of Brandman University's MBA program with a focus in health administration.
